I’m not a religious person but I have to admit this new Pope has me excited. Everything I’ve read about his seems to suggest that he actually tries to follow the teachings of Jesus to a T. He has discarded all of the elaborate, overly ornate decorations and costumes his predecessors have worn for simple, white garb and a plain chair.
On his recent trip to Brazil, while visiting the slums he said, “No one can remain insensitive to the inequalities that persist in the world. Everybody, according to his or her particular opportunities and responsibilities, should be able to make a personal contribution to putting an end to so many social injustices.”
His comment on gays came today during a press conference on board the papal plane, “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”
I’m willing to bet there are some Catholics losing their shit over this today but hopefully just as many that are willing to take his words to heart.

Yeah.. if you think Catholics, on the whole, are “losing their shit” over this, you need to know more Catholics. In my estimation, a far higher percentage of Catholics share this sentiment than Protestants.

The Catholics I do know, which granted aren’t many, are older and are likely losing their shit. It’s good to know though that, on the whole, they probably aren’t.

“The human person, made in the image and likeness of God, can hardly be adequately described by a reductionist reference to his or her sexual orientation. Every one living on the face of the earth has personal problems and difficulties, but challenges to growth, strengths, talents and gifts as well. Today, the Church provides a badly needed context for the care of the human person when she refuses to consider the person as a “heterosexual” or a “homosexual” and insists that every person has a fundamental Identity: the creature of God, and by grace, his child and heir to eternal life.”
“It is deplorable that homosexual persons have been and are the object of violent malice in speech or in action. Such treatment deserves condemnation from the Church’s pastors wherever it occurs.”
(During an audience granted to the undersigned Prefect, His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, approved this Letter, adopted in an ordinary session of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and ordered it to be published.)
Given at Rome, 1 October 1986.
JOSEPH CARDINAL RA
Out of curiosity what is that you think Pope Francis is believing that has been a part of the catholic faith already. This is nothing new.and catholics aren’t “losing their shit”.

“Did the Holy Father invite people to practice homosexuality? By no means. Did he infer that gay ‘marriages’ would soon be performed in Catholic parishes around the globe? Nope. He simply stated the eternal Christian truth which is preached for all people and for all time: if you are searching for the Lord in earnest, you will find him. And you will be welcomed.”
