Earlier this year MLS officially announced that a second professional soccer team would be joining the NYC area. The team, called New York City Football Club, or NYC FC for short, will join the league in 2015. The problem now is where are they going to play.
Initially there were rumors that the club was searching for potential sites in Flushing, Queens but apparently those plans never seemed to even come close to fruition.
Yesterday, someone uploaded these images claiming they were the leaked renderings of proposed stadium at Pier 40. Pier 40 would be an absolutely beautiful place for an MLS stadium but it’s still unclear how seriously anyone involved is considering Pier 40 as the final spot for the stadium.
One thing is clear, if this is the design they go with, NYC FC better make sure they’ve got the talent to pull it off because if they start tanking and stinking up the place things won’t be pretty. The New York rags will have a field day coming up with a slew of metaphors at their fingertips considering from a birds-eye view the stadium looks remarkably like giant toilet bowl with a toilet seat on top.
