It’s jarring when you realize that billboards like this dotted the countryside fewer than 50 years ago. Reddit user security-guy took this photo in 1973.

Sadly times haven’t changed much. The Ku Klux Klan “adopted” a highway in Missouri in the late 90s. Missouri’s response was perfect, it renamed that section of highway the Rosa Parks Freeway. Eventually the Klan was kicked out of the program for failing to actually keep the highway clean.
