It’s not like it came as a surprise to anyone that Samsung was somehow behind that selfie that David Ortiz took with the President Obama on his trip to the White House but apparently the White House isn’t too happy about the media attention it’s getting considering it’s kind of making Obama look like an indirect tool of Samsung.

Obama Welcomes World Series Champions Boston Red Sox To The White House

Ortiz tweeted the photo to his followers on Twitter and immediately Samsung retweeted the photo to their 5.2 million followers saying they were “thrilled to see the special, historic moment David Ortiz captured with his Galaxy Note 3”. First of all, how fucking big are David Ortiz’s hands? That thing looks like an S4 or something in his hands. The Note 3 is a huge freaking phone.

“I can say that as a rule, the White House objects to attempts to use the president’s likeness for commercial purposes, and we certainly object in this case,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney.

Some news outlets have reported that Ortiz was paid to take the photo, a claim which Ortiz denies. Ortiz said, “It wasn’t anything promotional or anything like that. I mean, who knows that you’re going to get a picture with the President, a selfie? You can’t guarantee that.”

Regardless of whether or not he was paid, Samsung was quick to jump on the promotional bandwagon which hasn’t set well with the White House at all.
